TPMS issue

Yesterday I put some TSS wheels on my truck ('18 TRD Sport). The gentleman I bought the wheels and tires from told me he got them from another guy who took them off a '17 Taco.

This morning on the way to work the TPMS light starts flashing then stays on solid. A search on Google suggeats resetting the sensors. Tried that but no luck. Stop by Discount Tire on the way home and the service guy grabs his reader to check the sensors. None of the sensors put out a signal. He tried '16, '17, and '18 with no luck. Checked to see if there was a lock on the sensors but nothing came up.

I thought maybe the wheels and sensors were older than '17 but the tires were mfg'ed in '16 (practically brand new still) so I would assume the batteries would still be good.

Aside from dead batteries, what could cause the sensors to not put a signal? Is there something tire tech didn't check or know?

Hmmm not sure what could be the issue. I'm pretty sure the tss Tacoma is only available in the later 2nd gens like 2012 to 2015. I've never seen a 3rd gen TSS Tacoma. Maybe the sensors are different??

Would the sensor signals still be detectable if the guy only checked for '16-'18? Or would he need to drop down to say '12-15 with is reader?

It says a lot about discount tire and the service guy to try 3 different years. That’s great service I think

Silly question, but are you sure the sensors are even there?
Not a silly question. In fact the gentleman I bought the tires and wheels from ASSUMED the sensors were there based on the valve stem. So that thought did cross my mind. The technician at Discount Tire "confirmed" they were installed also based on the valve stem. But, without removing the tires entirely, there's no way to to say confidently that the sensors are installed.

Damn. I hope you get it sorted out. If you find out, let us know what the issue is. The only other thing I can think of is that they all got "fried" electronically, but I have no idea how that could happen to all 4.

Will do. Im gonna call DT again today and ask about the year group difference (2nd gen vs 3rd gen) and how that may affect the codes and sensors.
