Start-X remote starter

Ok, so I’ve always been a huge fan of 12 volt solutions. They were the first to offer a plug and play remote start for the Tacoma. Heck, I’ve gotten dealerships using them for installs now, not to mention all the individuals I’ve gotten to buy them.
It sucks that their prices are so expensive now. They aren’t astronomical but $350 for a plug and play H Key remote starter on a third gen is a little pricey.
I took a chance on the Start-X remote starter (which is made by fortin). It was $185. The quality is just as good or better than 12 Volt Solutions and it was half the price.
If anyone is looking for a super easy remote start to install that still uses the OEM fob this is the one.

ALSO: the Start-X doesn’t kill the engine when you open the door like the 12 volt solutions does. That’s a huge plus. It acts as any OEM remote starter I’ve had and was about a 30 minute or less install.

I planned on getting the 12volt solution one eventually for the wifes camry with push to start. I'll check this out and see what they offer for the camry. Thanks @Bogunn [emoji106]

This looks great and a pretty seemless install from the video... The only issue is I have a manual so there may be some extra work that needs to be done to bypass the clutch start requirement.

There are mixed answers about it working on a manual, if anyone has any experience, let me know!

Also the one offered by N2 Designs gets very good reviews and praise over on TW. I think he is a sponsor of that site and provides excellent customer support from what I have heard. That will probably be what I go with. Although it does shut off the engine when you open the door which seems kind of silly.

As far as I know the Start X is the only one that doesn’t stop when you open the door. (I could be wrong though). Either way, I’ve had two 12 volt solutions and they did. It wasn’t a deal breaker by any means.
So far so good with the Start X. I do like the fact it doesn’t shut off with the door opened.

I was just looking at the StartX on Amazon and it clearly states that your engine will shut off when the door is opened. It states there is no way around this for the push button start.Screenshot_20191015-003438.jpg

The H key doesn’t shut off. Only the push button. Also, in my experience, the range is better with the H key fob as opposed to the push button fob.
