Less than poor fuel mileage

I just bought a new 2019 Tacoma OR, has 1900 miles and Is all stock. I've have it on the interstate 4 or 5 times now and only once did I average around 18mpg at ~80mph. During my most recent trip I drove ~150 miles at 80mph with cruise control and averaged 16.5mpg. Anyone have any thoughts as to why it's doing so poor?

Average if out yourself with calculating the mileage divided by miles driven instead of using the trucks mileage and see how it is.
If it’s the same it may get better with time. If not you may just have your foot in the pedal a little too much.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I've been doing reading on other forums and find that some say the OR on average just does slightly worse. Some speculate that it's the lack of the chin spoiler but I've heard counts of sport owners that say they've removed it and had no change in fuel mileage. And I personally can't imagine such a small piece of plastic would have that dramatic of an effect. Anyone have any thoughts on the overall issue?

Gotta agree with Bogunn.....my '17 OR I purchased with 4,000 miles on it and was getting 18-20mpg. Have steadily watched the mpg's go up and now with 36K miles I average 22-24mpg. I do believe you'll see better mpgs the more miles you get!

I know that on some vehicles that the chin spoiler directs air up and into the radiator. Not sure if it does this on the Tacoma.

I live in San Antonio and went through one summer with and one summer without the spoiler and saw no change in heating/cooling. The spoiler is really better said to be an air dam. I assumed it was an mpg squeaker to clean up the under truck turbulence. But again I haven’t seen any change in mpg or drivability in 80% city 20% highway driving.

What was youre gas mileage then? [emoji1][emoji23]

I wasn't at that speed for any amount of time to really do a fair judge of fuel mileage. I will say that there was no discernable difference between the day with the 100 mph runs and the day when the top speed was on 80 mph, around 14 to 15 mpg.

The speed limit on the interstate highways may be 65 or 70, but you go with the flow or get ridden over. One side benefit of high speed is the damn transmission didn't kick down when you drove over an acorn, like it does at 50 mph.

I hate the kickdown its annoying as all get out . I hardly ever use 6th and I don't like the kicking in cruise control my '16 just turned 33k. I love my truck ! Lol
