Engine swap

my question is I have a 99 Tacoma that was totaled. It has a 4 cyl. with only 102000 miles on it and a automatic transmission. I want to buy another Tacoma with the option of putting this 4 cyl.in it . What years can I look at and can I swap out a 6 cyl. For this 4 cyl. Also does it matter if it has a manual transmission instead of my automatic. Anyone info would be greatly appreciated as I'm in a time crunch to get something.

I guess I need to know if motor mounts work between the 4cyl. And the 6cyl.
There will be fabricating and cost involved with that swap. You’d be better to find a 4cyl, auto with a good body and high miles thats cheap. Or even one that has a good body and a bad motor and swap like for like. Plug n play ;)

Welcome to the forum.
Yup. Easier to search for what you have and just stay with a 4 cylinder. Any of the gen ones using the same drive train as yours should match right up I’d imagine.
@4wd would probably be able to answer that for sure.

Take your questions 1 at a time,, If this is what you want (this makes the most sense) start looking for one like it w/blown engine (as suggested)
& yeah, you could do a swap to a V6 but not without some work & $$$$$ & time, you don't have time to do a project truck, I mean you needed the info ASAP, you going to have this swap done by Sunday ?...haha j/k
Seriously don't even think about some crazy ass MOD like a swap right now ( I'd do an LS1 swap personally)

& yeah it matters if it's auto or manual, with a manual you'll have to add a pedal, & some hydraulics , punch a hole thru floorboard & a flywheel, having fun yet ??...:)

Thanks for all the information. Sorry it took me so long to reply, been trying to run down leads on another truck as this was my plow truck and it's snowing. Thanks again.
