Thanks for all of the advice. I dipped my fender flares as well the chrome Tacoma and V6, and it looks awesome! I also removed the TRD sticker. I already know that or17trd will ask for a pic, so I've included one.
Now I need mud guards but I'm going to post to the accessories forum.
Looks like I'm going after the 2017 pro model look. No need to mention that I need real tires, I can't wait!!!!!!!20180310_084128.jpg

Do u actually NEED mudgaurds/flaps?

All they do is flop around on the highway, get caught and ripped off offroad, and the constant flopping around wears off your paint where they rub.

They are alot like hood deflectors, paint damage caused by products meant to protect........paint.

I agree 100% with the hood deflector. I’ve had them plenty of times in years past and they all run paint and get insanely filthy underneath.
The OEM mud flaps don’t really rub any paint. I love them.

Ill need to look at a 3rd gen flap closer, u flop them back and forth and no points rub on paint?

They are pretty firm. They attach to the inner wheel well. Not a lot of flap to the mud. Your other points are valid.

Hmm 2nd gens are rigid too, thus they dont flop around like a rubber mudflap, they fold back i guess is better descriptor. Then any paint in contact (alot) with the sides gets worn from the movement.... id give an example with a pic, but i havent had flaps for years.

Third gens don’t contact like that. At least the OR’s don’t. They would fold back and break off before hitting any paint. You’d just be out some flap jacks.

Smart, ours have a small amount that touches the flares and screws em up.
Its sad, look at a 2nd gen on the highway and look at the bend in his flaps, then look at the contact points.

Nice to see 3rd gen fixed this.

The off roads don’t have painted flares so I can’t say if the paint would get messed up due to them not having paint to mess up. @Bogunn has the sport, painted flares, and the OEM mud flaps maybe he could tell you if the flaps would screw them up when bent back.

Minimal at best on the lower fender flares, and the flares aren’t steel anyway so what would be rubbed off wouldn’t rust. And I imagine that any rubbing would be extreme circumstances.
