3.4l fuel filter/stealership help

I've posted this question in other threads but I want some opinions and any help is appreciated. I have been trying to replace the fuel filter on my 02 DCSB 3.4. I got an OEM filter from the dealership yesterday. I went to put it on and could not get the outlet side of the filter to thread onto the fuel line fitting. I tried for hours. Finally I gave up, pulled the new one off and put the old back on. I looked at the threads on the old filter and they are perfect, clean and straight. When I pulled the new one off I noticed that the outlet side threads are messed up. The old filter threaded back onto the line with zero issues and doesn't leak a drop. So I took the new filter back to the dealership this morning and they told me that the thread issues were caused by me and not the manufacturer so they wont exchange it. Here's my question. Do these threads look like it could have been caused by me? To me it doesnt seem possible for a cross thread to actually change the physical placement of the threads in the filter. The dealership told me that the metal on the fuel line is harder that the metal in the filter threads so it can change the thread pattern. Seems a little weird to me. What do you guys think? Do these threads look like a manufacturer issue or did I just blow another $53....20180517_193431.jpg20180517_193442.jpg

Looks like a manufacturing defect on the threading.
