Hey all, I just purchased my first Tacoma. Its a 1998 SR5, 3.4l v6 with a 5-speed manual trans. When I purchased the truck I noticed it had the rear diff lock button installed. Immediately I assumed that either someone swapped for a trd off road model axle or that the button didn't actually do anything. To my surprise I popped it in 4lo, hit the button and heard it lock up and the rear diff lock light on the cluster came on. So we have an axle swap right? Then I get home and start sifting through the paperwork the previous owner gave me and the original 22 year old dealer window sticker from the vehicle falls out of the owners manual and it shows the "trd off road" option included in the sale price of my truck. I guess I'm just very confused because I had always thought with the sr5 and the trd offroad packages you either get one or the other. Never both. Does anyone have any insights? I'd like to have a better understanding of what is actually on my truck.

You have a locker from what it sounds like, you should be happy! I mean if the dealer sticker says its ur truck "vin" and its an offroad then its an offroad...

The only way we got a TRD in western Canada was as an SR5 package, loaded, with TRD added to that. But we never saw a “limited” up this way either.
