HELP! 99 Tacoma 2.7l compression problem

I just bought this truck a week ago knowing it had issues but no idea what they were. The truck has no power and I checked the compression and it was 120, 100, 90, 100. They guy I bought it from had new Pistons, rings put in and the head re-worked. He seems to thing that the lifters may be stuck but I have no clue. What's yalls opinion so I can try to get it fixed so I don't waste time with it. Thanks

Hey Colter,
How is it going? I was not going to respond to you because it seems like I am the only one who responds on the first generation Tacoma board, and I don't want the other members to think I am board response slut.
You definitely have a serious problem on your hands with your Tacoma's motor. I don't think the guy you bought it from did all of the engine work you listed in your thread. The engine simply would not be that weak if all of that work was performed. If the lifter's were stuck, the engine would not run, and if it did run, it would be making all kinds of hideous noises.
Hopefully, you did not pay much for the rig. You should probably start looking at rebuilding the current engine or looking for a replacement engine if you plan on keeping the truck.
Good Luck!
Paul

That compression isn't that bad. It's not new engine good, but if it isn't burning oil etc I wouldn't rip an engine down based on those numbers.

I don't know what you mean by "no power", as in the truck isn't fast? 2.7 in a truck isn't going to set any records at Bonneville even when new. "No power" as in it won't even make it up a hill on the freeway at 65 without downshifting and putting the pedal to the floor with the bead empty? If it's that bad, those compression numbers wouldn't be the first place I'd look.
