2008 Tacoma Post 100k Maintenance - Keep vs Trade

Just looking for a little advice....

I have a 2008 Tacoma TRD Off Road with 100,000 miles on it. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles. I've replaced the air filter and cabin air filter 3 times. I've replaced spark plugs, breaks, and tires once. Had to replace 1 rear axle seal at $400. Up until recently everything else was great.

About 6 months ago, the axle seal started leaking again and I neglected it until the differentials started making a grinding noise and it cost me $3400 to fix. When I went to pick it up, I told the salesman that I may be interested in trading in mine for a new one if he gave me $11,950 for mine and the one I wanted for $34,000. He said that he could do 11,500 for the trade and give me the price I ask for on the truck.

I know that people say that Tacoma's go 200k or more miles if well maintained, but I've lost some faith in mine, even though the huge expense was my fault for not getting it fixed right away. I honestly can't decide if I want to keep it and get a full tune-up and fluid check and hope that I get another 100,000 semi-problem-free miles out of it, or if I should just trade it in for a 2016 and probably have at least 100,000 problem free miles. I'm worried about things like transmission, drive shaft, cv joints, ball joints, tie rods, etc going now, because I never did any real maintenanc on the truck. Or are the things that I've done above enough for a Tacome. I've always drove Chevy's and Fords and things like ball joints, tie rods, idler arms , starters, alternators ,etc always seemed to go between 60,000 and 100,000 miles. I love my 2008, and I don't want to spend 22,500 on a new truck, but I also do not want car problems.

Any thoughs or past experience with post 100,000 mile repairs would be appreciated. Just kinda curious what I should expect if I keep it.
Thanks,
Allen

Nothing more convenient then knowing your problem free for a few years. New model out, maybe hold off a few months to get the final kinks out. But then again it's all gonna be warrentee.
Nobody made their taco last 200k miles withought replacing moving parts. The rubber from Gaskets and seals will break down and start to leak. Water pump leak. Power steering rack. Lines. Diff fluids. Control arm seized. Ball joints. Axles. Spider gear. Alternator will eventually go... it's all costly but probly cheaper to fix as you go but then again. The smell of a new truck. Tough to beat. It's probly worth about 15k in good working order so i think its a good price he gave you.
Youd just be taxed on 22500 instead of 34000 so that's a huge bonus. Goodluck with your decision

I guess it depends if you want to write a check every month or turn a wrench??? I have a 157,000 on my 2009 Tacoma (just replaced all four shocks), with two sons in college... I have to replace parts.

170k miles today. Radio stopped working, 2 bad u-joints (same one twice from improper maintenance), and the rest has all been standard maintenance. ARB shocks were added as an upgrade.
You could probably make it to 300k easy if you keep it maintained good enough.

I replaced my stock radio with a JVC unit purchased from crutchfield. Originally, I had this radio in my 2002 Tundra (installed about a month before I purchased my Tacoma). Crutchfield sent me free hardware to install this unit in my Tacoma. With service like that... I purchased some nice JVC speakers for the doors. Hust replace the u-joints and get a nice radio. Just my 2cents!!

I also own a 2008 TRD sport never gave me any issues. I got it at 150,00 few years ago and I've been maintain it ever since. Now I have 180,000. If anything breaks down, I'm willing to rebuild the engine/tranny but I doubt that would happen. Not for a long time at least. I don't believe in the new Tacomas. Not gonna lie they are nice but I don't believe they'll be as reliable as the 1st and 2nd gens. This is all my opinion.

I love my 08. As of today shes only got 74,400 miles. If i could get the scratches out of the paint shed look brand new. Knock on wood ive done nothing other than brakes and tires. Obviously the usual routine maintenance as well. Probly due for a tune up and a good detailing tho. Oh and the best part...i own it. No car payment
