Tire pressure for sand?

I'm going to pismo next weekend, but the last thing I want is to get stuck. What should I keep my tire pressure at?
2006 TRD off-road

Extra weight
-camper shell
-4x4 armor rear bumper
-rock sliders
-ARB bumper + winch

Tires
-285 procomp MT2

Tire pressure makes all the difference in the soft mushy stuff. I go to Pismo 2-3 times a year and the first thing I do when I get on the sand is air down to about 12-15 lbs. I see first time 4x4's getting stuck all the time. I drive up to them and tell them to air down and low and behold, they get unstuck.

Beadlocks say otherwise
If you're referring to beadlock rims, no one is allowed to have real beadlock wheels, I think they are illegal. Plus 98% of people that go wheelin rarely use beadlock wheels. Unless they green sticker their truck or have tons of money. I also live in California idk how the laws are in other states. I usually see beadlock wheels in legit pre runners or crawlers.

Point was......

Beadlocks allow much lower psi to be safely run.

Why would they do this?
Because it makes a larger footprint and allows more of a floating effect in the sand. Also helps in mud, and general offroad.

Not trying to sell OP a set of locks, just saying they are here thanks to folks airing down offroad, @TacoKen and i believe on the strip as well?

True beadlocks are not DOT legal..... the cute little fauxlocks toyota came out with are obviously DOT legal, they are just glorified beauty rings.

I lived in Grover Beach next to Pismo for 4 years and spent a lot of time in my truck out on the dunes. I always laughed at the guys that didn't air down and would bury it to the axles. I'd run 5 to 10 psi and would run circles around them. The tow trucks make a fortune off those types. Just to piss them off and help the nice ones out, I'd rig my big tow strap and bungee pull their rigs out of the holes they dug themselves into. Pulled a bmw out one time. Acted just like a sled on snow. Watch that water crossing though. Sad to see 50k+ rvs drown. Oh, watch the dune drop offs on the lee sides. Approach slowly and take it easy. Lots of wrecks from rolling and blind jumps.

Have to agree with slowpoke. True beadlocks are not DOT legal. Air down to at least 20. Maybe less depending on the sand.

Are you talking about airing down on the beach or in the dunes? I run Nitto Terra Grappler G2 10 ply 33" and never had to air down anywhere. But never played in the dunes so that may be different. No problem on flat sand ever staying in 4H. Have only used 4L in steep terrain.

Pismo is both

Dunes, i can stay on the beach without airing down at all

All sand situations are different. I've been Wheeling on beaches at, Cape Cod in MA,Island Beach State Park in NJ, Outter Banks in NC, and Several Beaches in FL. Hard pack sand no airing down cars drive on them . Anything soft which might be just access points on and off the beach 15 PSI. Talk with people who use wherever your going regularly and most will be happy helping you with info. Always a great time! I've also never wheeled where your going!ImageUploadedByTaco Forum1467545658.891930.jpgImageUploadedByTaco Forum1467545677.670019.jpgImageUploadedByTaco Forum1467545717.800506.jpg
