I got a 2017 ,put 5500 miles on it...it's the limited and has top of the line everything except for the fact it's junk...the tranny is garbage, and the gas peddle you gotta put thru the floorboard to feel the power band kick in...well I call it a power band, there is tons of road noise I expected to be a quiet truck for the price I paid....and yes,had it in the dealership 4 times already over 4th gear,,,it's like 4th gear is the only gear the truck knows,5th and 6th are never used unless your putting around town, hit the interstate and set cruise control and it never wants to change up gears even on flat ground ,slight up hill grade it's 4th gear all the time...glad I kept my old Yota so I can go back to it after I sell this piece of crap..45k including taxes and I can't over 16 miles a gallon unless I drive like ms daisy.this is crazy...got 21 mpg 1 time since owning and after that gas mileage has went down hill...oh yeah,it does this stupid neutral drop out of drive when rolling down hill under 5 mph and then jerks real hard after it decides to go in gear...so over this truck...the only positive so far is that in 2wd in,snow on street tires no slippage what so ever even up big hills ,never had to use the 4wheel drive..anyone else hate their truck

There's a TSB for the tranny, take it to the dealer and get it. Most have said it helps a lot. Can't help with the smaller engine.

Trade it in on a 2015 with the 4.0 happy with the power of mine and still gets good gas mileage with a 6in lift and bigger tires, I've heard those new Tacoma motors are junk

Can't speak for the new trucks but my 14 is awesome!

Good power, comfortable, and tolerable gas mileage

Check out my posts. I have too many problems with this crappy truck to repost here. I have the exact same problems plus a lot more. Worse vehicle i have ever owned. Toyota should recall all 2016-17 Tacomas. Pieces of ****! Im beyond furious. I wish a falling tree would crush it flat! I dont even want to drive it because it makes my blood pressure spike! Toyota dealer said they cant help me at this time, they dont have a fix. I might drop it off and take my plates and stop paying the payment. Shame on corporate Toyota! I wont ever buy a Toyota after this. I like my V-8's which can get the same milage with an added 100HP. They are losing this customer for life!

I bought a canopy too, the way the composite bed is made prevents the shell from sealing and keeping out water. Garbage garbage garbage!!!

I have a 2017 sport double cab and have had zero major issues after 8200 miles [defective wiper blade] since purchase in October of 2016.

I have the manual tranny 2017 4x4 dcsb and I hate it too. Bought to tow my 5500 lb boat and it's awful. Getting the truck going in 1st gear on the launch ramp is so sketchy. Regret buying this truck!

Dang! I have been working with Toyota and trying to het them to swap me into a manual thinking it would be better. Im going to get a 4runner if they decide to work with me. I have two more weeks of waiting for an answer from Toyota as to what they are going to do for me. Toyota sure dropped the ball on these new Tacomas. Yesterday my rear leaf springs started to squeek and sound like a junky jalopy. I hate this truck more than anything i have owned. Power washing wont stop the noise, as soon as the water dries after spraying it the sound comes back. If they dont take this back im getting my lawyer involved. I traded in a perfectly great Chevy which was paid off with only 46000 miles on it. What a huge mistake i made.

I traded in a great truck too and totally regret it. Toyota didn't do anything to help me so I'm stuck w it until I pay it down a little. If you tow anything... this is not the right truck.

I just bought a 2017 SR5 full cab long bed in November, and I don't have any complaints so far. In fact, I have a 4 x 4 with a V6 and I'm getting around 22 miles per gallon after only 2300 miles. Considering engines aren't really broken in until about 5000 miles, I think that's pretty darn good. As for the rest of the truck, it seems solidly built and runs quite well. So far, I'm happy with it. My other pick up is a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 in mint condition after 156,000 miles. I can brag about that, but I don't think that's appropriate in this forum! ;)

OK, I just got a software update for the transmission. Does anyone know what the update specifically does? (Should have asked at the dealer, but I forgot.)
