Just got a new tacoma with a rotted frame

I just got a 2001 tacoma sr5 and I really like the truck overall. The truck only has 118,000 original miles and I know that this truck can easily double its mileage. The body is in excellent shape except for the frame. From my research this is a common problem. Has anyone here ever replaced their frame completely? How much did it cost? I believe the frame is damaged beyond repair.

rival98- same here; just got a 03 with low miles with a rusted frame. the recall on frame replacement is over. unless they treated your truck and it still rusted.

My frame was replaced under the recall at no cost no rust has stared on the frame since as for other parts of the truck like brake lines and steering parts that's a different story but if I needed to address rust on frame I know there's a company that makes frame wrap kits that you weld on I remember seeing them

Thinking of buying a 2002 4x4 extended cab with 133k miles for 6k. The truck is very clean inside and out. What besides frame would be best things to look out for? Or would frame be my main concern. I don't want to spend the money then have it fall apart on me... Thanks

Just bought my 2nd 03 a month ago. 106k for 10k, so sounds like you're getting a deal. Frame-check. There's a spare tire recall, but you just missed it. I'd take it to a local dealer, have them take a look over. They'll want to earn your business and typically won't screw you over. Good luck.

Did it come with any service records? sounds like a good deal if everything checks out. The dealer will be able to give you all the service records that have been done at any toyota dealer

Hey guys, this is a private party seller. Which is why I'm a bit skeptical here. But he claims the title is clean, therefore I was hoping to take down the vin and run it myself/check car fax.

That's a good idea. You can also enter it into toyotas web site and see what comes back for service. You can download their app as well.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I set a time to go look at the truck yesterday afternoon, only the guy sold it to someone else right before I was going to leave to go check it out. Therefore I am still in the market, if anyone knows anyone in the Chicagoland area looking to sell, please let me know!

I just got my Taco back from a local frame shop. They welded two, partial OEM New Framework.jpg pieces to the frame near the rear wheels. Cost, $1300.00
