    2023 Tacoma

The manual transmission likely will disappear when the 3rd gen production ends. Using ATF in the 4x4 transfer case is new for Toyotas (starting with the 2022 Tundra). Previously the transfer cases all used gear oil. It's actually an improvement over the $50-a-can Toyota LF oil used in the 3rd...

    2023 Tacoma

The test mule has a Tundra body on the smaller Tacoma frame. Expect some tech sharing with the 2022 Tundra and with other Toyota models, which means electric parking brake, electric power steering (which makes lane tracing assist possible), transfer case that uses WS ATF, and likely a...

10 miles in 4wd every month

^That milky residue builds up at the highest point in the engine (i.e. under the oil cap). The equivalent location in the front diff would be the roof of the clamshell, which isn't visible.

    Jaw drop oil change

The only way for me to beat $54 DIY is buying oil at significant discount when they go on sale at Costco, Walmart, etc. I'm still using Mobil 1 0W-30 bought in 2020 :D

10 miles in 4wd every month

Maybe to get the front diff oil to operating temperature and evaporate moisture. You know that milky residue on the bottom of the oil cap when you don't drive long enough to let the engine oil heat up? There might be a similar thing with diff oil.

    Tire size question

285/70R17 will require wheel spacers or aftermarket wheels with less offset. You'll also need to cut away fenderwell plastic. Depending on lift and UCA, a cab mount chop may be necessary.

265/70R17 or 255/80R17 if on stock wheel offset. 275/70R17 will typically fit, too, if you find that size for sale.

They'll fit fine as others said. Ride quality may slightly worsen going from 16" to 17" wheels, due to the lower profile sidewall.

Questions on buying a used taco

So you're looking to buy a used 3rd gen Tacoma (2016+)? Only real issues to watch for are timing cover oil leaks, coolant crossover pipe leaks, and frame rust. The automatic tranmission is mechanically robust but is hobbled by crap shift logic from the factory. That can be addressed to a...
