What is this?

Welcome.

It's a LAPIS command bar, new for 3rd gen Tacos, 2017 and up. LAPIS has a number of interesting and novel features, but most important is this...

The LAPIS (logic application and power integrating simplex) command bar remembers the roads you most commonly travel and adjusts the transmission to shift more economically each time you drive them. It is actually the reason that Tacos seem to be lugging all the time.

You're fortunate that the tech removed it and returned to you. You should never go to the dealer without it in place. The EPA fines you for each mile it is out of service. I think it comes to 50 cents a mile up to a max of $2500.

It's a good thing you posted about it here.
