    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

I get it, I was surprised mine didn't break apart. My long-term wager to you is that any small square single plastic plug located close to the AT shifter will be an override switch. We may never know for sure, and hopefully, no one on this forum has a tranny lockdown that requires such.

    Weird AC Symptoms

Twice now in the 12-year life of my 2nd gen Tacoma, the air conditioner refused to kick in and blow cold air. Each of those 2 instances followed a somewhat lengthy period of battery power disconnection. The second time, just yesterday, when I switched on the AC, all I got was hot air. I'm...

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

That rack dates back to my '83 Datsun 4X4, and was constructed by an employee/welder in Cushing, OK. Sorry, I can't remember cost details that far back. But it's made of extra heavy wall square tubing that's been abused but hasn't flexed a bit in the 41 years. Needs another paint job though.

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

That's what I thought until the tow truck driver explained it to me. Pop it out and tell us what you find, if you want.

    the climate crisis...

I recently heard a 'climate expert' say we are actually in the later stages of a long-term mini-ice age. And I don't believe the use of organic, natural resources has any effect whatsoever. Solar activity cycles make more sense.

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

Here's my 2nd gen '12 TRD OR, dedicated as my 'work truck'. Had I known about the override, I'd have saved a $100 service call. Yet I was able to recover the cost from State Farm since I have 'road assistance' in the policy. 'Never used that before w/ the reliability of the Toyota's. Nautical...

    '07 FJ Cruiser

Nope, I have one very tiny chip. It doesn't show well in the pic, but the windshield is almost vertical. And therefore, it doesn't deflect well at all. But that certainly does not lessen my attraction to the FJ. For some reason, it's just fun to drive and I get many compliments.

? is the center-support (carrier) bearing the source of the current taco ills + vibes

For my '12 TRD OR I went with the Dorman 934-401 'center support bearing'. and it cost $56.96 +tax on Amazon. The u-joints were Spicer, the kit of 3 was $58.25 +tax on eBay from ventures truck parts and equipment. With tax, my total cost for parts was $125.

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

My '07 FJ Cruiser has the same override switch, shown below. But I don't see one on the new '24 SR5.

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

Just above the "P" is a small, square plastic plug shown above. Using a small screwdriver or pocket knife, pop it out and below you'll feel a small push button. This is the tranny lock override switch (in my "12 TRD OR Tacoma). Once the engine has been started, hold the button down while...

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

A picture will be supplied this afternoon. I figured almost everyone on this forum knew of this little "secret".

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

When I first knew something was amiss, I started the engine and the wipers came on. I thought that was weird, and the wiper switch had no effect. A day later, the ABS dash light was on and the tranny shifter was locked in "Park". 'Popped the hood, found the large rodent nest, and cleaned it out...

    '07 FJ Cruiser

I was told you all like pics, here's something a bit different. My '07 (original year) FJ Cruiser and T@B travel trailer. 'Bought the FJ new, it's been garage-kept and has only 15,000 miles. I've taken the rig on mountain. bike trips to Moab, UT a couple of times, but the Tacoma's get 95% of my...

    Bought a '24 SR5

With the new 4th gen's you won't know for sure what will be delivered 'till you get it. At least currently. And you can't necessarily rely on the Toyota-published spec's either. They're playing the downgrade previous standard items game, especially this year. Combine that with price hikes, and...

    Bought a '24 SR5

I don't disagree, mine's a 2nd gen but you're still right. They are a bit heavy, and they do tend to ride a bit harshly, but they are almost built-proof though. And the engineer in me likes that part very much. (I tend to use a safety factor of 2.0, not 1.2.) At least the smaller 2nd gen 16"...

    Bought a '24 SR5

Exactly right, you'll soon see a pic of my '12 TRD OR wherein I mounted tool boxes on each side, directly above the rear wheels. So the rear tires are weighted correctly for almost perfect traction. The boxes are easy to access and work from w/o trying to grab for that tool that's just beyond...

    Bought a '24 SR5

'Could be wrong, but I don't think the TRD OR has the air dam.

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

I was sweating it when I priced a completely new wiring harness at over $3000 (not including labor). No doubt, I lucked out on that repair.

    Bought a '24 SR5

Here's one from the rear. Today I pulled the rather stupid air dam from the front (before it's damaged by the rough lease roads that I frequent). And to me, the street tires just don't look right for a 4X4 truck. That will be changed also.

    Squirrel (Rodent) Damage

I wanted a bit more protection so I wrapped the repair with some sticky foil tape and added a bunch of split flex tubing as shown. BTW, the opposite corner could be vulnerable to nesting as well.
