Don't think I have dropped 30 mph but I did drop 10-15 on a hill and it down shifted and proceeded to change gears like it should back to a set 70 mph. Normally if I had to drop 30 mph speed I would not use resume

First off you are not removing the intake Air filter, you are removing a second charcoal filter that is after the normal air filter. I did this on my 08 tundra that I bought new and still own, no issues at all. it has something to do with capturing unused vapors when you turn the engine off.
New to forum: Just purchased a 2016 TRD Off Rd double cab At. the manufacture date on it is 11-20-15 and it doesn't have an issue like the one described by op. So I would say it is fixed with updates to be issued
