I was thinking more in line with a soft shell vs a tonneau cover vs hard shell. I figure it would be like the room of a hard shell with the ability of a tonneau cover, fold out of the way when needed.

My 05 was an access can long bed it was nice but I wanted more room inside and I wanted a sunroof so I bought the double cab off road short bed. I don't really miss the extra foot in the bed, the short bed hauls 4 x 8 sheets just fine.

Nope just bought some a couple of weeks ago the sides are $32.50 part number PT278-35100 SB or LB for long bed and the header rail is $30.90 part number PT278-35100 BH theses are from Toyota dealers got the header rail from McGeorge Toyota and the side rails from Olathe Toyota found both online...

The rails are only about $30 each brand new I bought some from McGeorge Toyota toyotaparts-mcgeorgetoyota@emails.revolutionparts.com but probably get them from any toyota dealer.
