Routing battery cables

I have a '23 Tacoma with a small bed mounted winch. Up to now I've been using a small separate battery to power the winch. To make it more convenient I'm wanting to run 8g battery cables from the factory battery, down the frame and up between the cab and bed. I think I see a route to use but wanted opinions from people who have done it. Also, I'm going to use 8g marine duplex cable. Does it need to be in conduit or is the duplex sheathing sufficient?

Really depends how the cable is routed, whether it's got enough protection from any obstacles that you might encounter. Only you can answer that, how you'll use your truck over its lifetime.
