Chrome painting tips?

I currently drive a blacked out Tacoma.....with one exception. My chrome rear bumper. I've been shopping for replacement black bumpers for a while but have also read some articles on sanding and painting. I'm interested in going the painting route but I'm scared the paint I buy won't match what I want or I end up painting poorly and ruining the bumper. Any advice?

What year?
Rather than sand it, have a body shop sand blast it, then prime and paint to match. It will last much longer that way.

Other option if it is a 2nd gen, find a bumper from a SR package model Tacoma in your color (my 2015 has a color matched super white bumper).
