13 PreRunner front skid plate

Have a 13 PreRunner (my third - love 'em). Getting tired of oil changes costing $15+ extra to remove and replace every time when changing oil. This is a work truck, has never been used off-road and never will. What, if any, is the reason not to remove the front skid plate (only) and leave it off. In nine years it's never even suffered a scratch (neither did the previous two rigs). Does it serve any structural or safety purpose? Note: I will save the skidpad to replace if/when sold. Thanks. The only purpose I could see for that plate is to prevent any foreign road matter from getting sucked directly up into moving parts, belts, fan
Think of a flying plastic bag in the wind on the freeway

They are made and coated with subpar materials that rust like crazy and crumble apart when the salty winter roadslop gets trapped up on them
