3Gen shift points change in S?

I’m sure this has been covered before but I can’t find it.

I know you can manually shift in S and the automatic shift limits at 4th, but does allowing automatic shifts in S change the actual shift points like ECT does?

Yes it does, when in drive it short shifts, in S mode it actually shifts like youd think it should.

According to toyota.custhelp.com, when in S mode the transmission will hold lower gears longer. Are they the same as ECT Off? I'm not sure.

I’ve been playing around with running ECT, then clicking over to S5. I’m not sure, but it feels like that’s just adding 5th to ECT as the shifting does not seem to change from running in ECT while in drive. Nothing closely monitored or recorded though, but that’s kind of what it feels like.

I’ll play around with S5 without ECT to see if there’s any difference there.
