Beer - BS and review thread

Father in law had a fridge full of beers and gave me a few to try. I’m trying this one right now.
Deschutes brewery’s The Abyss 2014 reserve
11.1% abv 86 IBU

Brewers notes: The Abyss: malt beverage brewed with black strap molasses, licorice, with cherry bark and vanilla added with 6% aged in oak bourbon barrels, 11% aged in oak barrels, and 11% aged in oak wine barrels.

Aroma: It’s rich and lot is going on here. I can smell the molasses, coffee, chocolate and vanilla but there is more happening.

Look: very dark it’s almost black

Taste: bitter sweet, the IBU is higher than other stouts I’ve enjoyed, notes of cherries, cocoa powder, coffee bean, and brown sugar. There’s lots of licorice on the body, initially the beer starts off bitter as it warms up the flavor changes the bitterness goes away and your left with more of the malt and sweetness.

Over all it’s a nice stout to warm up with on this Friday evening in October.68A27725-FFEF-4334-9ADF-752863949D62.jpeg Best after date FC00AF1F-96E2-4851-B2E3-0377EC12177A.jpeg 2AF6B3DF-F624-4EC2-AD38-8C35FB182EE2.jpeg
