Clutch won't fully engage

Fellow Taco owners I need some help. I have a 2004 Tacoma 4X4 with a manual transmission and a 2" lift. I was out wheelin today and crossed a river once, the water came up to the bottom of my doors when crossing. After playing around for a couple hours I crossed the river again, the water was a little higher in this part. When crossing the river about halfway across smoke starting coming up and it smelled like my clutch was burning up, although I wasn't really using it as I only shifted from 1st to 2nd and wasn't feathering it. Now it feels like the clutch won't fully engage and you can smell it burning while driving. I can shift easily between any gear but it feels like its slipping/not fully engaged. My truck has 117,000 miles, do you think it was just bad timing being in the river when it wore out? Any advice on what might have caused this or what I need to do to fix it would be helpful. Thanks
