High idle after changing valve cover gasket

98taco

What's up fellas. Newbie here. Been around trucks alot but mostly 22r/re. Just got a 98 taco with a leaking valve cover gasket and torn up plug seals. Replaced it all and now has a high idle. Mid 1000 rpms. Noticed oil on floor after drove around the block and parked. Motors still hot so I won't be touching till I have free time which is hard to find.. any info or advice. Thanks.

Check vacuum lines make sure you’ve got everything in the right spots.

Throttle body sticking? Clean it?

Bad thermostat? I’ve seen a bad thermostat cause this the engine thinks it’s still cold and idles high.

Second on vacuum leak — correct vacuum keeps the oil in the engine.

Just turn it on and listen/run your hand over the lines to find the loose connection or bad hose.
