Lift Kits

I just purchased the Tacoma I've always wanted. I purchased the 03 prerunner double cab 4cyl. It's completely stock.
I want to personalize t a bit, and the first thing on my list is to get a lift kit on it to get a nicer look with custom wheels and maybe a size bigger in tires.
Any advice on what I am getting myself into. I want to make sure I dot all of my i's and cross all the t's. I want to avoid damaging the truck...
