So what are Tacoma owner's thoughts on the newer 2016 Tacoma?

So what are Tacoma owner's thoughts on the newer 2016 Tacoma? I did not test drive one yet, however I'm sure it's a good truck. However by just sitting in some of them at the car shows or at the dealer, I see the truck does not have a tacticle handlebar on the inside of the truck on the driver's side as it does on the passenger side. It's something I could do without but I think should be an option. Also, I think the parking brake should be by the foot pedals and not on the console, makes it feel like you're in a smaller vehicle. Also the console box is smaller. Thoughts anyone?
 
The hand brake is better for tough 4wheeling. But one question I have, How are you with the power of the 3.5 engine? I had a 2008 with the 4.0 and it kicked ass. Now the 3.5 is so slow until you get to 4500 RPM's then it takes off.
 
Lackluster engine performance, trans programming sucks, same 2nd gen weak rear suspension and very nice interior. Still too many unknowns with the new drivetrain. I've read of crank sensor issues.

Towing with the manual tranny is not good. Getting my boat out of the water and up the launch ramp was pretty sketchy. My boat is about 5300 lbs so well within the 6400 lb limit. I should have bought the auto. Besides the disappointment of towing w the mt great truck!
 
I just went on a day trip with my buddy who has a 2017 Tacoma. I felt like the 3.5 was lacking in power compared to the 4.0 in my 2015. It also didn't get the fuel mileage mine does. He was averaging about 15.3 - 15.7 according to his readout. It also seemed the 6 speed automatic transmission does a lot of shifting, especially when in cruise control. He really gripes about all the shifting. He had it back in to the dealer, who said it does shift a lot, but could find nothing wrong with it. I guess time will tell. I will say the 4WD did great in the desert. I was impressed with that aspect of it. Anyway, that is my $.02 worth......
 
Time will tell - Yes; a little more than a month and 1500 on my 17. I've had enough. The powertrain is a joke. Quality control on the design was ZERO. Don't want to bash it too much. I won't be able to unload it.

Just an update. I told my buddy about a Toyota service bulletin about the tranny on his 2017. He took his back to the dealer, and they reprogrammed the transmission, and he says it is much better now. So, just a heads up for any of you having the same concerns with your 2017.

I just bought a new LTD, it just rolled 5000km's, nice truck but i find it stutters badly from 1200 rpm to 2000 rpm when slowly accelerating, i ind this a real pain,as it s 50 mph to 60 mph right where you drive.
 
I'm nearing 5,000 miles on my 2017 TRD sport. I must have the updated transmission firmware because I noticed zero shifting issues, get 20 miles per gallon without even trying comma although I'm pushing 24 when I'm really trying hard to get there. The only issue I have in the entire vehicle that I know of is the passenger side windshield wiper makes poor contact with the windshield. If it were on the driver's side the vehicle would be undriveable in the rain. The truck is freaking awesome. I've driven a couple hundred miles in 4 wheel drive total in snow and slippery roads and have zero complaints. I got to tow my bass boat with it several times on a single axle trailer and notice no issues. I went from a 99 Yukon to the taco and I'm glad I did.
 
So far I'm undecided although I've got less than 200 miles on it. If I can get familiar with the entune, get to the steering wheel buttons, setup syncing with iPhone 6 it could grow on me. I'm having issues concentrating on other things till this is done.
 
I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport. Drives terribly especially on highways. Poor response and lagging when Accelerating. Have had the updates done with negative results. My 98 and 04 4runners drive better my new Tacoma. Very disappointing.
 
I have 2016 4X4 Access Cab. I get 15.8 mpg combined. Along with poor mpg is the crappy Entune App on my Samsung S5 and a really bad wind noise from the doors that the dealership says is the ports to let air into the cab. Three issues. Poor mpg, wind noise (Toyota should fix these) and a bad app.
